Do you want to use cutting edge music technology? Do you want to learn about the hardware/software that is changing the recording industry and rocking the foundations of the music business? Do you want to know where it is going, and how it works? Do you want to control sound? Do you have a streak of creativity and are sure you could make better music that what you are hearing (and you can) but you don't really play an instrument (neither do they)? Are you a musician with little funding, no backing, and the burning desire to get your music "out there" for the public to hear? Do you just like sound and music? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this is the class for you!

- What is sound, digital versus analog, and why do you care?
- File formats for audio (types, converting to and from, uses, advantages/disadvantages)
- How to get anything audio saved into any computer
- Optimizing your operating system to produce sound
- MIDI (it lives in your computer and how to let it out)
- Mixing (getting it all to fit together)
- Mastering (producing the final product)
- Making and Editing Soundtracks for Video
- Ringtones (how to make them and get them into your phone)
- Podcasting (creating, and uploading them)
- The Law
- Virtual Instruments (software "plug-ins" to add to your inventory)
- Sampling (how to use it to add to and create music)
- Audio Software (Sonar, Pro Tools, Audacity, Garage Band, and more)

This class takes place in a computer lab. We generally spend the first part of the class period in lecture/discussion and the rest working with sound. Grades are based on participation and 5 or 6 audio projects that are due during the course of the semester.
