ETSU is a member of the SAP University Alliances program and ASUG, the Americas’ SAP Users’ Group.

Through membership in the SAP University Alliances program, ETSU is able to offer courses that feature hands-on use of software from SAP, the world leader in business software. SAP software has been integrated in to the following department courses:

  • CSCI 3720 Fundamentals of Business Information Systems

  • CSCI 5720 Enterprise and e-Business Integration

  • CSCI 5730 Enterprise Information Systems

  • CSCI 4757/5757 Information Systems Implementation

  • CSCI 4767/57677 Enterprise Programming

  • A variety of other special topics courses

As a part of our affiliation with ASUG, ETSU regularly hosts chapter meetings of the East Tennessee ASUG Chapter. ETSU faculty member Dr. Tony Pittarese serves as chairman of this chapter. At meetings hosted on campus students and faculty are able to network with ERP professionals in the region and hear speakers on a variety of contemporary business computing topics.

SAP software is used to reinforce class concepts and provide students with experience in working with enterprise information systems. The following are among the resources used:

  • ERPsim: a real-time business simulation that runs within SAP ERP. (CSCI 3720, CSCI 5720)

  • NetWeaver Enterprise Portal: a portal system for managing business communication (CSCI 5720)

  • NetWeaver Visual Composer: a development-through-composition tool used for prototyping and deploying business applications (CSCI 5720, CSCI 5730)

  • NetWeaver Developer Studio: a powerful programming environment that uses Java to create custom software (CSCI 5730)

  • ABAP, WebDynpro: a programming language used for ERP and related development resource set for business application development

Students completing 3 courses with significant SAP content will receive the SAP Student Recognition, a certificate that attests to the student’s foundational knowledge of ERP and related software systems.

Graduate students in the Information Technology program with take 2 required courses in ERP.  By choosing ERP-related elective courses and/or thesis work, students have the ability to focus a substantial portion of their program of study on ERP and related Enterprise Information Systems.

The department maintains an SAP Advisory Group that advises the department on ERP-related educational initiatives and business collaboration opportunities.
