Usability Reviews and Testing
The ETC can perform end-to-end usability work on a project, from exploration with field observations and Contextual Inquiries, to mockups, prototyping, Information Architecture design, expert reviews, and usability testing. Usability tests are conducted using Techsmith's Morae software, a state-of-the art solution for remote and onsite usability testing that does not require a traditional lab setup.
Usability is a particular specialty of the ETC, because both Carolyn Novak and Jessica Smith recently have worked as usability analysts in industry, at Siemens and Sabre Holdings, respectively. In addition, Jessica teaches the Human Computer Interaction class (CSCI 4927/5927) in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.
Usability considerations are built into all of the ETC's projects. The ETC has helped clients such as the College of Public Health and The Appalachian Resource Conservation and Development Council with usability. Training sessions on how to apply usability principles to software and websites are offered by the ETC.
