Jeff Vernon - Alumnus

If you could change one thing about ETSU or your time here, what would it be?
I wish I had pursued social activities more. I sort of went to school every day and then went home.
Why did you come to ETSU?
I already lived near Johnson City and it was a good university.
What is your greatest hidden talent?
Creative writing, but I don't do much of it anymore.
What is your hometown?
Johnson City (actually Boones Creek)
How old are you? How old do you feel?
53. 43.
If you were to do a celebrity endorsement of one Johnson City business or local product, which would you choose?
Carl Little Construction Company. He builds great houses and is my brother-in-law.
All-time favorite book:
Bible
When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up? How about now?
Professional baseball player. Retired.
The best way to spend a free afternoon in the Tri-Cities area is:
Hanging out with my family eating some good food and laughing.
What is your favorite bumper sticker?
Jesus is Coming -- Look Busy!
Favorite outdoor activity:
Hiking.
What is the biggest accomplishment in your life up to today?
Still happily married after almost 25 years.
What is the most unusual job you have ever held?
Newspaper reporter.
Do you participate in any sports?
Is walking a sport?
If you had to choose right now where you would spend the rest of your life, where would it be and what would you do there?
This is a hard question. I love where I am (Tucson, AZ), and I love what I am doing (developing software a Raytheon Missile Systems), but the rest of my life is hopefully a long time. Part of me still longs to be back in the hills of East Tennessee. I still have lots of family in the Johnson City area.
